Bryan & College Station, TX's Preferred Dog Grooming Service

Does your back hurt after leaning over the bathtub washing your dog? Does it take hours, or days, to finish trimming your dog's hair? Although you might like to save money, it might be a better idea to have your dog professionally groomed. Doing so will help save you time and energy while making your furry friend look and feel great.

After bringing your dog home and getting it acclimated to the family and surroundings, it's time to think about dog grooming. It is normally not recommended to start grooming services before 12 weeks of age. The first grooming appointment usually gets the dog introduced to all of the services including getting a bath, blow-drying, nail clipping, and a puppy trim. The first visit does not take very long as the puppy may have a short attention span.

What's Normally Included with Dog Grooming Services?

A professional dog grooming service first consists of the dog being brushed. During this step, the groomer will get out any mats in the fur, making it easier to lather the shampoo during washing. The groomer will then lather the dog with shampoo, giving the dog a nice scrub. They will clean the dog's ear, removing any buildup. During this step, the groomer will be able to determine if there are any signs of infection and will relay this information when you come to pick up the dog.

The dog will be dried either by air-drying or blow-drying and then trimming will begin all over, including above the dog's eyes, tips of the ears, and bottom of the feet. Their nails will be trimmed to a comfortable length. In some cases, groomers may brush your dog's teeth and provide anal gland expression services.

The time it takes to complete dog grooming services depends on the size of the dog, the breed, and the services being completed. Small services like nail trims should only take about 10-15 minutes. Full grooming, bath to trimming, may take 3-4 hours. How often a grooming session is recommended depends on the breed, the type of coat, and the length of the dog's hair. Typically, it is recommended to have your dog groomed every 4-6 weeks to avoid getting matted and to keep the dog clean and healthy. However, some dogs can go longer between grooming sessions.

Choosing A Groomer

Finding the right dog groomer for your dog may be as difficult as finding the right hairdresser for yourself. Since they will be with the groomer for a couple of hours, you'll want to find someone you can trust. One of the best ways to find a groomer is to ask for recommendations. Your family and friends can probably provide the names of the groomers they use which can help narrow down your search. Once you have some names, check out reviews online.

The next step is asking questions of the groomer you choose. This may include asking about their experience, training, certifications, what breeds they have experience with, their prices, hours, and more. You can visit their grooming salon ahead of time to check out the place and ask more questions. A reputable groomer will welcome you to take a tour. Ask about the grooming fees as this may be different for every breed.
